Kids BJJ (5+)
Age-appropriate grappling, controlled rolling and real technique. Built for safety.

Real martial arts for kids 5 and up: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Taekwondo with belt progression based on actual mastery, not monthly test fees. Bilingual coaches, and adult classes running at the same time so parents can train too.
Kendall has plenty of strip-mall karate schools. The ones that hand out a new belt every few months, with a test fee attached, teach kids that showing up is the same as getting good. KO Zone does the opposite: belts are earned on technique and time, so when your child earns one, it means something.
The program combines two arts. Kids BJJ teaches grappling and control: how to handle a bigger kid without hurting anyone, which is why it is such an effective anti-bullying skill. Kids Taekwondo teaches striking, forms and the explosive kicking that makes it an Olympic sport. Many kids train both.
Yes, it is a 25 to 30 minute drive from Kendall. Families make it because of what they get: experienced coaches, fully bilingual staff, and adult classes running alongside kids' classes, so a parent can train instead of sitting in the car.

Five years old. Younger kids usually are not ready for the structure and focus class requires; from 5 on they genuinely benefit.
Here is what the drive gets you: belts that are earned rather than sold, experienced bilingual coaches, and adult classes running at the same time, so a parent can train instead of waiting in the car.
BJJ is grappling: ground control and submissions. Taekwondo is striking: kicks, forms and traditional discipline. Many kids train both; start with whichever appeals more.
