What you'll learn

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the most-proven submission grappling system on earth. Built around leverage and technique over strength, BJJ lets a smaller, skilled grappler control a larger opponent. Our Miami BJJ program teaches the full spectrum — fundamentals, guard work, passing, submissions, escapes, takedowns, scrambles — in a structured curriculum that progresses cleanly from your first day.

Gi classes emphasize traditional grip-fighting, sweeps, and the slow-game positional chess of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. No-gi classes train the leg-lock-heavy, fast-paced grappling you see at ADCC. Most members train both. Both are taught with attention to how the position translates into MMA and self-defense — because the techniques actually have to work.

We run open mats, drilling sessions, technique deep-dives, competition prep, and live rolling rounds. Whether you're trying BJJ for the first time or you're a brown belt prepping for Worlds, the room has training partners at your level.

Common Questions

Asked & answered.

Do I need experience to start BJJ at KO Zone?

No. Most members start with zero prior grappling experience. Our day-1 fundamentals classes meet you where you are. By month 3 you'll know the major positions. By month 6 you're comfortably rolling.

What should I bring to my first BJJ class?

A gi if you have one (we have loaner gis if you don't), athletic clothing for no-gi, water, and a clean towel. Show up 15 minutes early — we'll get you situated.

How fast can I get to blue belt?

Belt promotions in BJJ are based on consistent training, technique mastery, and time on the mat — not a fixed schedule. White-to-blue typically takes 1.5 to 3 years of regular training. Our coaches handle promotions personally.

Can I compete in IBJJF tournaments through KO Zone?

Yes. We run a competition team and coordinate registration, weight cuts, game-planning and corner support for IBJJF Pan Ams, Worlds, F2W, ADCC and local Florida tournaments.

Do you offer kids BJJ classes?

Yes — ages 5 and up. Curriculum is built around technique fundamentals, discipline, focus and self-control. Many of our adult members started as kids in the program.

Do you have women-only classes or sparring partners?

We have a strong group of women on the mats and offer training environments where female members can roll with other women if they prefer. Inclusive culture, no exceptions.
