Training built for the job

Most martial-arts gyms can't coach first responders the right way because their coaches don't know the job. KO Zone is different — our staff has trained law enforcement, SWAT teams, and government tactical groups, and we've built a dedicated first-responders curriculum around the specific needs of the work: rapid-control techniques, restraint mechanics, arrest-position drills, ground-control under stress, and the specific scenarios you're actually going to encounter.

Our program adapts core BJJ, judo, boxing and Muay Thai techniques into work-applicable skills. We're not trying to make you a competitor — we're trying to make you safer on the job. Skills like maintaining control without resorting to lethal force, restraining a non-compliant subject in less than 30 seconds, getting back to your feet after a takedown, and de-escalating physical situations through superior position rather than superior force.

Programs are structured for individual officers, partner training (you and your usual partner), and full department / unit programs (block bookings, on-site training, custom curriculum). Talk to us about what your team needs.

Common Questions

Asked & answered.

Who is the first-responders program for?

Patrol, SWAT, corrections, federal agents, military, EMS, paramedics and security professionals. Anyone whose job involves potential physical confrontation with another person.

Can my department book the program?

Yes — full unit-level programs are available. Custom curriculum, scenario-based training, on-site or at the gym. Contact us at 305-754-9663 or info@kozoneusa.com to discuss.

What's the connection to BJJ and martial arts?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is the most-proven control system on earth. Our LEO defensive tactics are built on BJJ principles — leverage, position, control without injury — adapted specifically for the realities of police and corrections work.

Do I need martial arts experience to start?

No. Many of our first-responder members have zero prior grappling or striking experience. The curriculum starts from fundamentals.

Can I train alongside my regular partner?

Yes — we encourage partner training. Many techniques work better when you've drilled them with the same person you work with.

What about civilian self-defense?

We have a separate self-defense program for civilians. The techniques overlap but the legal framework and use-of-force context is different.
